"I love the Lord, and I want to glorify Him in EVERYTHING that I do. He is my Rock and my Redeemer and without Him, I’d be dead. I truly believe that. Not just a spiritual death either!"

  • Hey Jaime!!! It's such a privilege to have the opportunity to share your story! I am so, so excited for everyone to hear about your business, but even more excited for them to hear your testimony. Before we go any further, what is your *favorite* meal? I love to do “Supper Stories” in person but we're not exactly neighbors so tell me what we're eating around the imaginary table?

It is hard for me to pick one favorite meal because I tend to pick things in waves, but I will pick one for the purpose of sharing a supper story with you! My husband’s favorite thing for me to make is meatloaf. Often I will make it and he walks in and immediately goes “Yes!! Meatloaf!!” as soon as he smells the air. The sides we make with it vary, but I gravitate toward green beans made in the pressure cooker with onion and bacon or brussels sprouts in the oven with onion and bacon. Brussels sprouts are probably my favorite thing right now, I am loving them!!! For dessert I would make chocolate chip cookies. My oldest son and I made TONS of them last year in preparation for his 4-H Foods Project. We tried various recipes and ended up tweaking quite a few to make our own. Now we make them all the time to bless friends and family, or my husband’s co-workers

  • That's so funny because my husband has the exact reaction! And I LOVE brussels sprouts!! I also love that you are involved in 4-H. When we lived in the mountains, I was the Club Leader & my favorite project to lead was (not surprisingly) the Foods Project. I LOVED teaching that class! How wonderful that you're sharing the yummy goodies with loved ones! Ok Jaime, now that we've got our meal squared away, tell me a little bit about you!

My name is Jaime Whitlock. I am married to my wonderful husband, Jeff Whitlock and on the 27th of March we will be married 14 years! We met in February of 2002, went on our first date April 12, 2002 and have been inseparable since. He truly is my best friend, we still are each other’s closest confidantes, soul mates, and I can’t imagine going through life without him! I grew up in a small town in Eastern Iowa, near the Mississippi River. I lived in Cedar Rapids, IA for two years in 3rd and 4th grade but moved back to the town I was born in at 10 and lived there until I was 15. After my freshman year of high school my father was transferred to Tampa, FL and so I graduated from Plant City High School in Plant City, FL in 1994. It was quite a culture shock to go from a small farming community in Iowa to a large farming community in Florida! The main crop in Plant City is strawberries, and you may have bought some from your local grocer as I often look for Plant City strawberries in February and March, in their peak season. My father took another job halfway through my senior year of high school in Indianapolis, IN so after I graduated I gave up the scholarship money I had won to go to a state school in FL to attend Butler University in Indianapolis and be closer to my family. I had a hard time transitioning from the Midwest to the South so a chance to go back to the Midwest I took (I ended up transferring from Butler to Indiana University Indianapolis and that is where I hold my degree from)! I’ve been in Indiana ever since. My husband is from Mobile, AL and went to college in Pensacola, FL. His college roommate married his college sweetheart and moved to Indianapolis. While talking to his old friend from college one day, he decided to take a chance and move up here, leaving all of his family in Mobile and coming to a small community called Lapel, IN. He got a job at Walmart and that is where we met, in frozen foods aisle 2! I was working in Lawn & Garden at the time and had nothing to do since it was February so my manager sent me to help “the new guy” unload a truck and well, the rest is history! 😊 So now the joke is that you can get anything at Walmart, including a wife! Haha! After we were married we decided to raise our family in central Indiana, having had the chance to move near his father in Muscle Shoals, AL at one point before having children, we decided that we liked the idea of raising a family here. Having a family though proved to be harder than we anticipated. We tried as soon as we were married but soon found out that due to my condition called Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome and the insulin resistance that it causes, it would be difficult to have children. Because of my insulin resistance, I need to follow a low carb lifestyle. After a doctor pointed me in the direction of eating “ketogenic” and going into ketosis, I lost 60 lbs and became pregnant with our first son, Samuel. We named him Samuel (which means “heard of God” because Hannah prayed for a son in 1 Samuel in the Bible and God heard her prayer and blessed her with a son) because he is our answer to prayer. Quickly after, God blessed us with another pregnancy and therefore we named him Joseph, which means “God will add”. Joseph was not planned, but he sure is a blessing and part of God’s plan. We thought we were done after Joseph but 4 years later in my late 30s, God gave us Eli Nathanael. He is named so because he is our gift from God. Eli means “ascent” and Nathanael means “given of God”. My day job, if you will, is as a stay-at-home mom who homeschools all three of our precious blessings. Why do I homeschool? I feel it is God’s calling for our children. We have so little time with our precious ones, and God really laid it on our hearts to spend it training them up in the way that they should go, as the Bible says. I have been so very blessed by our homeschooling journey. The boys and I learn together! I also have a part time job as an assistant to a marketing consultant who has his own firm. I also sell Scentsy products because I absolutely love them! I have been purchasing Scentsy from other consultants regularly since 2008 when I first discovered them. I probably should have started selling it way back then simply because I buy it all the time! I signed up late last year to begin selling it because I do purchase it regularly. Our home is filled with wonderful scents and scents are just like food, tied to so many memories! I love hearing Andrea’s stories of the recipes she makes and shares with us on Instagram because I LOVE hearing the stories!! That is exactly what scents do for me. I love the smell of books, I love the smell of cars. I love the smell of elevators, weird I know, but true! Scents are tied to so many memories for me that using Scentsy back in 2008 just made sense for me! One of my favorite scent memories is driving in my grandfather’s mid 80s Toronado and the whole way home (he lived in the next town south so it took 11 miles to take me and my siblings home) I remember breathing deep through my nose to remember that moment. It’s as vivid to me today as it was then. So helping others remember things through the smells of Scentsy is the fun part of the job for me!! It’s also a way for me to share blessings with others, as I love to help people raise money for their cause with Scentsy. I have a friend who I donated 100% of the money I earned in the month of January to because her 2 year old granddaughter is fighting cancer and the costs of getting to and fro, plus taking care of her other three grandchildren that she has custody of can be financially rough. I was able to bless her with that money, and it’s a privilege to be able to pray for her and walk alongside her in her granddaughter’s journey to beat neuroblastoma!

  • We will be continuing to pray fro your friend and her granddaughter! I love the joy with which you speak, Jaime. Your journey surely hasn't been easy but your joyful spirit is so evident. :) I bet you're joyful about your business too...want to tell me about it?

Scentsy is a safe, flameless, wickless alternative (NO flame, NO smoke, NO soot, NO lead) to scented candles but also so much more! This concept uses decorative, ceramic warmers to melt scented wax with the heat of a warming plate. The wax never reaches a “burn” heat. There are so many different fragrances in different categories in the wax range. We also have other fragrance products including Buddies (super soft stuffed animals that you can put a scent pak in), Scent Paks, Scent Circles, room sprays, car bars, bath & body products, laundry products, diffusers and oils… so many ways to smell good! Our scent bars are made from food grade paraffin wax and all products are gluten, toxic and animal cruelty free.

  • Until you sent me the picture of your contribution to our raffle, I had NO idea Scentsy offered so many products! How did you get started distributing Scentsy? What drew you to it?

I have been buying Scentsy since 2008, always changing my warmers with the yeasons and loving getting more. I decided late last year that I wanted to start selling it to get the commission from the products I buy for myself!

  • Smart move girl! What motivates you to get up every day and pursue success with your business?

What truly motivates me is Jesus, my husband, and my children. Without Jesus, I don’t know where I would be. My husband helped me see at the age of 25 that I was living for myself and it was getting me absolutely nowhere. I was working to make money for alcohol and drugs, involved in dead end relationships with multiple people using me for said alcohol and drugs, and I had no desire to do anything. I could see that Jeff was different from anyone I had ever met. Yes, he’s tall and handsome, but he was a shining light and I was so curious to know why he was the way he was. He shared Jesus with me, and even though I was raised in a church I had no idea WHAT Jesus did for me and so at 25, I gave my life to Him and every day since then has been an amazing journey. I love the Lord, and I want to glorify Him in EVERYTHING that I do. He is my Rock and my Redeemer and without Him, I’d be dead. I truly believe that. Not just a spiritual death either! Being a wife, a mom, a teacher, an assistant to the owner of a business, and a consultant for Scentsy are all like frosting on a giant cake!

  • It's all just gravy after grace and redemption, isn't it?!  His love is so sufficient for us, and yet He opens all these other amazing doors for us too. Quite incredible when you stop and think about it! Nothing comes without challenges though, right? What is your biggest challenge in being a business woman?

My biggest challenge is self-doubt. I’ve always struggled with the question “Am I doing enough?” and will constantly re-evaluate. Sometimes, I need to take a step back but not to re-evaluate but to say "Ok, let’s go!" Instead of looking backward, I need to focus ahead!

  • I relate to that so much more than you will ever know. I bet I'm not alone in that too! Forging ahead can be so hard, but the results are so worth it! What is your biggest victory so far?

Probably learning that I need to have a vision for my future, not just Scentsy but how it fits into the other aspects of my life and my life fits into my desire to help others.

  • I really love that. Having a broad vision and an eternal perspective really changes everything. How does your faith play a role in how you run your business? Tell about a time your faith has carried you in your venture.

I really want my business to be a blessing to others. If there is a month where I am not fundraising for someone, then it’s looking for opportunities to take the money I’m earning and pay-it-forward. My husband and I are part of an outreach to the homeless in a town near where we live with our church and it has opened my eyes to the opportunities to be a blessing to others I may have turned a blind eye to before. Not because I didn’t want to see it, but I just wasn’t actively looking. I want our children to know that kindness isn’t just something we want them to think about but to LIVE out. Ephesians 4:32 is very real for us, and has to be practiced every day.

  • Jaime, that is so inspiring and serves as a fantastic reminder that we must live our lives in service to others. You're giving your children a beautiful example. If you could provide every person who follows you with one thing you provide, what would it be and why?

Definitely a warmer and some wax, because that is my first love with Scentsy! There are so many ways to make our home cozy, but I’ve found that equating that coziness with scent makes for some wonderful memories with my children. They love when I go around changing out the wax around the house and often pick out scents for each room and tell my WHY they want a particular scent. They are equating scent with memories just like I do! I love providing that for my customers, and seeing them smell a wax and tell me a story of what it reminds them of!

  • I think memory making is so incredibly important and I love that you've cultivated such a unique and lasting way to do that in your home. I think we all hope our kids look back on their childhood fondly and treasure certain scents, tastes and experiences. What would you tell yourself if you could go back 5 years?

GRACE, GRACE, GRACE, GRACE… have grace for your husband, for your children, for your friends, for your brothers and sisters in Christ, for your family, for yourself.

  • Beautiful advice. I think I need to tell my future self the same thing!! Jaime, is there anything else you'd like to share with our Community?

A few years ago, the Lord really impressed upon my heart to get more involved with ministering to women. I had been a part of MOPS, women’s Bible studies, etc., but was a participant. God began pushing me to be more proactive in these endeavors. So as I was praying through this, we also started praying about leaving the church we were in to pursue ministry opportunities elsewhere. We are very involved in the church we are currently attending but I still felt the Lord prompting me to be more of an encouragement to other women. The idea of women encouraging women is so strong on my heart, and that is why I am excited to be a part of this block party! Sitting around with this community of Instagram, and blogging, is plucking at my heart strings. If there is any way that I can pray for YOU, and encourage YOU out there, please let me know! I am honored to share my supper story with you at the virtual hospitality table!

  • Jaime, I cannot thank you enough for sharing your heart, your business and your testimony with us! That's what Supper Stories are all about; connecting the hearts of the people in our community and directing them all back to Jesus! God has done amazing things in your life and I truly believe He will bless your endeavors in ministry. I will be in prayer for you and encourage our readers to do the same. Much love to you, girl!
